As an intern at Greenhouse Church I was challenged with the task of designing the Christmas sermon series: The Mothers of the Messiah. This 5 week series covered the unlikely lineage of Jesus Christ and why the Bible includes unexpected names like Ruth, Tamar, and Rahab in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1.
To create this Advent series' design direction, I led initial brainstorming sessions with the Greenhouse Creative and Communications team. Everyone on the team brought inspiration, images, ideas, and opinions to help assist in the creation of this series' visual identity.
The final direction features a Middle Eastern woman obscured by painterly textures and noise. The strong red color and ornate typography convey a traditional Christmas tone, but the portrait stands out against the seasonal ornament, much like the unlikely names listed in Matthew.
